Advanced Design of AP1000

The design of Passive Safety Systems of AP1000 meets the newest criteria of Nuclear Regulatory Commission of America (NRC). AP1000 uses simple but essential scientific principles and simplified but the most advanced equipment, including instrument and I&C system for digital control.

 

I&C system of AP1000 uses proven digital technology, which can effectively avoid the failure of common mode by diversified safety/non-safety related I&C systems, information transmission and relevant operation. Main Control Room adopts compact configuration of computer work station. The human-machine interface has been greatly improved refer to the lessons learned from other operating plants.

Features of Main Equipment

The major change in AP1000 design is piping connection. Other critical changes are as follows: Reactor Coolant Pump (RCP) adopts canned pump, instead of the sealing pump in regular design. Fuel Assembly uses standardized configuration of 17*17 to improve the performance of the fuel. Integrated forging has been adopted in reactor vessel head and barrel, in order to reduce the in-service inspection points. No penetration in bottom head area to enhance the safety in case of emergency like core-drop.
